Talking with my younger brother recently made me realize how important it is to have a blueprint for life. He was sharing with me how some of my school notes from years ago were now being helpful for him as he was going through classes and learning new concepts.
He would have read my notes before going to class and was therefore able to answer questions no one else had a clue about, develop his understanding, and get ahead in his schoolwork. He was thankful to me for taking such good notes and passing them down, and I was thankful to him for utilizing what he had been given and doing his best in school.
This sparked a conversation within me about how much easier life would be if we all had a kind of blueprint to follow that detailed what to do every day, who to speak to, what to invest our time and resources in, et cetera. Then it occurred to me- we do!
But, somehow, we just don’t see it that way. Do we?

If you were having a bad day or got into an argument with a really close friend, would your go-to for comfort and direction be the Bible? Or would you prefer to watch YouTube or vent to someone else instead?
If you just won a jackpot of a million dollars would you ask Google or a trusted friend for advice on how to spend the money? Would you just come up with ideas yourself? Or would you ask God how to go about it?
If you were really confused about something about the world or just didn’t understand a person- maybe even yourself- would you try to figure it out on your own, seek an expert’s opinion through social media or would you ask the One who created the whole universe- including you?
This isn’t me trying to judge you or drive you up a wall. This is me asking genuinely from a place of love because I didn’t quite see it this way at first either.
To be honest, it wasn’t until I joined a ‘Bible in a Year’ plan at the beginning of this year that I started to properly understand God’s heart and the wonderful wholesomeness of the Bible. I’ve been reading books like Isaiah and Amos (not what I would usually turn to) and I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve come to understand that there is nothing that God’s word does not speak to.
Indeed, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His glory and excellence” [2 Peter 1:3, ESV].
So then, all we need to do to live a truly happy and fulfilling life is know.
How do we know? By reading the Bible.
Trust me, in it are treasures that will guide you into the greenest fields and brightest nights. Seek them.
Sincerely,
Stationarymissionary.
