One of the most frustrating life scenarios is urging a football player from 5,000 miles and a flat screen away to pass the ball. You’ve calculated it all- the best angle for the shot, the probability of scoring a goal, the possibility of winning the trophy at the end of the season, how best to use your soon-to-come bragging rights, everything. All this player needs to do is pass the ball, this is the right time!
Indeed, a lot of the time, we’re concerned about not missing the right time for something in our lives. “Is now the right time to..?” is a question we’ve all asked, and will most likely continue to ask for the rest of our lives. Granted, we don’t ask it for no reason- there’s usually a lot riding on our decisions and choices.
Whether you’re thinking of pursuing that business idea you’ve had for a long time or you’re considering entering that relationship, whether you’re thinking of how to handle having a child you weren’t expecting or you’re considering informing your family about your withdrawal from school, you’ll wonder and wonder again if you’re getting the timing right.
And, while all of these are valid concerns and things to think deeply about, another thing I’ve found people tend to put off due to fear of timing is coming back to God after sinning or after a long period of not communing with Him.
My favourite way to answer the question “Is now really the right time to go to God?” is through CalledOut Music’s song, No Better Day:
“When my heart is torn in two And I'm trying to live for You, Let that still small voice remind me of these words:
There's no better way to really say “I love You” Than to do what You say, everyday And there's no better day to start again Than right here, right now 'Cause I want to be a place where You feel right at home”
Did you get that? There’s no better day or place to start again that right this moment, right where you are. Maybe you don’t feel like it, or maybe you’re in a place that you think is too public for you to come to the Lord, but this is truly the best possible time. Think of it this way- it’s no coincidence that you’re where you are at this time. It’s not a mistake on God’s part, for nothing ever is.
I urge you to take that step of faith towards your Creator now.
Whether it’s your first time coming to the Lord or whether you’re a returning child that lost sight of your Maker, I welcome you to the Father’s arms. It’s wonderful to have you here.
Stay rooted,
Stationarymissionary.
