How long does it take you to adjust to your surroundings when you wake from a deep sleep?
For me, it takes about 3 minutes.
Which is enough time for a robber to get me on my knees and shoot me in the head
Or for a black, fat, venomous snake to bite me in the heel
Or for an army of soldier ants to completely cover me
Or for a fire to break out and engulf me
But, none of this has happened
And none will, by God's grace.
Know how I'm so sure?
• “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore."- Psalm 121:4-8 (NKJV)
God NEVER sleeps.
Therefore, no robber or snake, no army or fire, nothing at all can take Him by surprise. We're allowed to rest and take a nap, He'll keep watch.
Aren't we blessed?
We could get into all the scientific reasons why it shouldn't be and all the neurological consequences of not getting any sleep; but none of these has anything on God. He's God.
This doesn't mean we're allowed to be careless and start a fire before going to bed. It just means that we have a Protector and Guard that does the job well without taking shifts because he never gets tired. So, I hope you can learn to rest assured in God today and always. He who watches over you never sleeps or slumbers.
