Just a User

After being out of school for about 8 months because of the nationwide strike embarked upon by federal universities' staff, a lot of students all over Nigeria were anxious to resume when the strike was called off. This became very obvious to me as classmates who had long forgotten that I existed suddenly started reaching out to “check up on me”. After which of course they proceeded to ask if I could send my notes from school and some practice questions.

Lol.

I didn't kid myself. They weren't interested in my welfare, just what I had that they needed.

Don't get me wrong. This isn't a motivational piece to tell you that people are trash and you should only believe in yourself. That's not true, and that's not the point.

The point is that we get so pissed when we see that we're being used by others, but seem to feel nothing at all even though we do the same to God.

The point is that we're quick to turn to God in times of sorrow or desperation, but don't see the point of fellowship when all is well and good.

The point is that we lack the passion for an intimate consistent relationship with God because we're busy trying to build a life for ourselves.

• “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”- Matthew 6:31-33 (NKJV)

The point is that we seek the blessings, not the Blesser; the provisions, not the Provider; the love, not the Lover; the gifts, not the Giver.

And, God knows it too. Which is why He holds back.

You're not the only one with standards. Just as you've decided your future spouse must have good teeth and your future job must give you fulfillment, God knows the kind of person (heart) He'll lavish His fullness on.

What is that thing you're seeking? What is that thing that clings to the position only God should have in your life?

The point is that all other things will come to an end. And, when it is time, the only thing that will matter is your relationship with God because that's what determines everything else.

Put Him first. Love Him for who He is. Seek Him today.
