Huge Fights

stationarymissiona

Just last year, I was suicidal.

If the suicide note I had prepared hadn’t been discovered, I probably wouldn’t be alive today. And when I look back at all that has happened between then and now, not being part of so many awesome things would have been my biggest regret.

Then you wonder, “Didn’t I know the implication of suicide? On a spiritual level?” Of course, I did. But at that time, I didn’t care. I was caught up in a huge fight and was on the verge of giving up.

Sometimes, being in fights pushes us to do stuff we never would have imagined or thought we’d end up doing. Huge fights tend to show us just how vicious and tenacious we can be, they show us sides of us we never knew we had. They ask us just how much we can endure and how much longer we can hold on to our faith in God. They ask us if we have what it takes to be overcomers.

Just giving up may sometimes seem to be the easiest way to deal with things, but it’s definitely never the best. By giving up in huge fights, you end up losing more than you bargained for. You also end up not living up to your full potentials and abilities. You end up denying your identity in Christ—because in Christ Jesus, we’re winners; and winners don’t quit.

Fights can take on many modes and vary in severity, but the fights within yourself are the fights that prove to be hardest to win. However, they are also the fights that must be won. This is because you can’t lose the fight within yourself and expect to win the battle with the external enemy. Peace within is necessary for peace without.

  • “Knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “Any kingdom that is divided against itself is being laid waste; and no city or house divided against itself will [continue to] stand”- Matthew 12:25 (AMP)

A house divided against itself cannot stand. You can’t be divided against yourself and expect to win against the enemy of your soul.

Whether these fights come in form of guilt, bitterness, depression, low self-esteem, pain, pretence, fear, hatred or anything else, the struggle is real. But you’re the one who determines the final outcome. Yes, there are people who lose these fights at the end of the day, people who end up saying they can’t take it anymore. However, there are also people who win these fights, people who end up victorious! But the major secret behind their win is that they received help. And that is exactly what we’re offered in Jesus.

  • “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].”- Matthew 11:28 (AMP)

Letting Him take control and surrendering your heavy burdens is probably the best decision you can make. Because then, He does the bulk of the work for you and the battle is taken from your weak and tired hands into His strong and capable hands such that all that’s left for you to do is keep your peace. Funny enough, He never promised that things will be easy. In fact, because you’re His, you’re that much more of a target for the enemy. But what He did promise is that because you’re His, He’ll always be there to help you through whatever situation. All you need to do is hang onto Him. And hanging onto Him means not losing your peace over whatever the issue is. It means you decide to undauntedly trust God and rely on Him; because, honestly? You can’t win that fight with your strength alone.

Yes, huge fights can be bloody and yes, they leave you feeling exhausted. But huge fights also build your character. Though I’m still faced with those thoughts sometimes, it’s easier for me to flush them out. Because I’m stronger and wiser now, I understand better the tactics of the enemy.

  • “Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]- James 1:2-3 (AMP)

Keep the faith; that’s all He asks. That’s the path to victory.
