Well then, what is an anchor?
It is a heavy object, usually shaped like a cross with curved arms, used to secure a water vessel to the sea floor so that it does not drift away due to the wind or sea currents.
Without an anchor, in adverse weather conditions, the vessel is at huge risk of losing control and being carried into dangerous zones. It can become damaged due to collision against rocks or other obstacles. Indeed, without an anchor, the safety of the person in the vessel is compromised, making it difficult to mitigate the situation or signal for help.
Let's break this down: You are the person at sea. The vessel is your life. The raging current is the world you live in. Christ is the anchor that secures your safety and future.
Even with the optimism that often accompanies a new year, it is difficult to deny the shaky state of the world we live in - already there are wars and rumours of wars, the cost of living is high, and the valleys of hopelessness run deep. Perhaps, on a personal level, you are worried about your future and what 2026 will hold as you face some uncertainties.
My friend, let me remind you:
"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein." - Psalm 24:1 (ESV)
Christ is sovereign over this crazy world. He knows your past, present and future, as well as that of everyone else you have ever met. Nothing has happened in your life that took Him by surprise, and nothing happens in this world that is not controlled or understood by Him. Despite the havoc we too often wreak with our free will, everything in life can be made sense of through Christ. And, one day, everything will be made right through Him.
Christ is your ever-present help in trouble. He never sleeps, He never slumbers. He ever saves, He ever strengthens. He is more than able to help you through every storm so that your life is not blown about in any and every direction.
In truth, there are many things you could have as an anchor: your brains, your money, your body, your connections, your relationships, etc. But (and now it's your turn to be truthful), which of those things never changes? Which has never let you down or left you hurt in some way? Which is as consistent and potently steadying as Christ Himself?
He alone can hold you fast. This year, trust in Him and He will steady you through the storms of life.

This is so powerful.. so true❤️
In this ever changing world with ever changing people, Christ is the only one who is unchanging.. steady. He's my Anchor 🫂🫂
